Blog news

“If we learn to open our hearts, anyone, including the people who drive us crazy, can be our teacher.” ― Pema Chödrön It has been a long time since my last post.  This is due partly to what life sent us over the past months and my pondering whether to continue the blog.  One of the main reason for debating the survival of he blog was the incredible amount of work spam creates, fake users, and abuse of every kind which unfortunately in now common place in cyberspace but impedes the progress and leaves a sour taste in your mouth on some days.  The advent of internet has opened so many doors but the problem of security, unscrupulous people have unfortunately also made it much less user friendly than it should be.  For our schooling, it has opened a work of possibilities, connection with other like-minded people but the anonymity has facilitated the work of predators and we are forced to take precautions which closes many of those doors.  Part of this year’s schooling adventure has been to connect with families around the world, sharing our gifts and learning from them.  It is progressing slowly but surely and we are making meaningful connections we hope will last a lifetime. I have not reached a concrete solution or decision yet but after a year break, I decided to find the answer in blogging again.  So as spring arrives early in the Northeast, I open a new chapter in the blog and in our lives as I return to school and continue our wonderful adventure into homeschooling. In the kitchen

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” Soren Kierkegaard The week is over, DS was home for spring break which he unfortunately spent healing from a flu-like virus.  He got all the rest he needed, he is now ready to head back to college.  The weekend is therefore dedicated baking!  Yesterday I spent the day cooking and I need to thank all the wonderful food bloggers out there for their talent and willingness to share.  I am a recipe cook, I do not create really in the kitchen so I am always looking for something fun and new to try. For breakfast we tested Silvana’s Kitchen’s Gluten-Free Sticky Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes with Maple Icing (minus the icing, they were plenty sweet for us without).  Absolutely delicious and sinful!  I took a small shortcut with Kind Arthur Flour gluten-free pancake mix which we were planning to …Read more

Global Healing Meditation for Japan

For the soul

Where there is love there is life. Gandhi (1869 – 1948) It has been hard to find the desire or inspiration to write the past week.  The pictures from Japan, the incredible pain and suffering the Japanese people have had to endure are heartbreaking.  I strongly believe in the power of prayer, no matter what its form.  As we all help in any material and physical way we can, praying for them, sending them healing energy to support them emotionally will also mean and help a lot.  The Deepak Chopra Center scheduled a Live Global Healing Meditation Monday, March 21 at 8:30 p.m. (EDT).  These global meditations are an incredibly powerful experience, and I believe they do help to support those we keep in our hearts.  Join if you can, I know the time is not the easiest for those overseas. The pantry…

The pantry…

Home management

A thing of beauty is a joy forever. John Keats (1795 – 1821) The pantry is done!  DD and I tackled the toughest job over the weekend and were so proud to use it to bake Banana Bread Sunday afternoon.  What a pleasure to cook and bake when everything is in its place, easy to reach!  I feel like I am finally home.  The cabinet pull-out organizers were unfortunately not going to work, the kitchen space is an odd shape and size so cabinets are not standard. I used open bins to act as pull-outs for better access.  The Container Store had the right combination of sizes.  I like the handled bins though they cannot handle heavier items such as canned goods.  We will take a long detour to the Natik Mall to be able to inspect some of their other open bins.  I will take advantage of that field …Read more

At school

Happiness is where we find it, but rarely where we seek it. J. Petit Senn A day later with my menu than usual, I have been working on my pantry and made the last few days “eat out of pantry” days instead of my scheduled meals.  It has been both fun and a source of peace of mind to have the menus and follow them.  DD is in the kitchen every time a new meal is cooked  and even looks forward to leftovers!  I am going to plan slow cooker meals or larger meals again to restock the freezer. Wednesday: Robin Miller’s Sesame-Ginger Pork with Soba Noodles Thursday: Quinoa and Carrot Salad and Tempeh Bolognes Friday: Hungarian Beef Goulash Saturday: The Nourished Kitchen’s Slow Cooker Lamb Roast (this recipe is from her weekly menu plan). Sunday: leftvoers Yesterday was Mardi Gras, tradition dictates a sinful menu.  We baked Martha Stewart’s …Read more
